Is Your Air Conditioner Aggravating Your Allergies?

Your air conditioner can aggravate your allergies especially if it is not cleaned out properly.  Air conditioners, once turned on, can spread bacteria and viruses.  It is biological contaminants that can cause allergic reactions.  Allergic reactions could include hypersensitivity pneumonitis, allergic rhinitis, pharyngitis, throat irritation and hoarseness.

There is an additional step that you may wish to take to reduce the impact to any allergies that you may have and that is to get an air purifier.  This action will help you control the humidity in your home and will aid in blocking the growth of biological organisms.  You will need to go even further and remove any wet surfaces, standing water, or water-damaged materials.

Air conditioners are not all bad.  They can remove pollutants from the outside air.  The best rule of thumb is to keep the air conditioning system well-tuned, change the filters regularly, and make sure all your ducts are professionally cleaned periodically.
